Chairman and Founder
Professor Gautam Sen is a Chairman and co-founder of Healthspring, which he set up with his son, Kaushik with an aim to bring high-quality primary care to India, and to transform Indian healthcare delivery. With more than three and a half decades in practicing General Surgery and Surgical Oncology, Dr Sen has held a number of distinguished roles in the past including a recently completed a year-long term at the 6-member board of governors for the Medical Council of India, during which he was the prime drivers of an increased focus on Family Medicine.
He is currently Director of Surgical Education at the Association of Surgeons of India, Chairman, College of Surgeons of India, President of the Association for Trauma Care of India, and founding Secretary and past Chairman of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Indian Chapter.
Considered to be one of the most respected surgeons and leading medical thinkers in India, Dr. Sen has been instrumental in a number of pioneering efforts to bring change to healthcare delivery in the country. A few of his achievements include founding the Association for Trauma Care of India (ATCI). Under his guidance, ATCI pioneered some of the most innovative and successful emergency response systems in India like the Golden Hour Project India's first wireless controlled Ambulance Service set up in 1985, which was inaugurated by Smt Sonia Gandhi in presence of then Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi. For the last 15 years, he has set up and run a ground-breaking primary care system providing care to 1.5 lakh rural population, which continues to be one of the most successful and respected not-for-profit models of healthcare provision.
He was awarded Hon Fellowship of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in August 2007.
In 2009, President of Republic of Nepal awarded him Hon Member of Surgical Society of Nepal for his outstanding contribution in development of postgraduate surgical education in Nepal in collaboration with National Academy of Medical Science (NAMS) of Nepal.
Dr. Sen believes that quality in health care delivery goes hand in hand with patient safety and patient-related issues and should be the prime aim of any health care delivery system, and that this direction can only come about from the vision of top leadership and their commitment to patient issues and welfare.
Co-Founder and CEO
Kaushik previously worked with management consulting firm Bain & Co. in Boston, Singapore and Delhi for over 11 years. At Bain, Kaushik worked extensively in Healthcare (Hospitals, pharma and medical devices) and Private Equity. When Bain opened an India office in 2005, Mr. Sen was an instrumental member in establishing the office. Kaushik was most recently a Principal in Bain India. In 2009, he ventured out of this highly successful and prestigious position to co-found Wellspring Healthcare, where he is currently the CEO.
On the academic front, Kaushik received a scholarship to pursue his undergraduate studies in Colby College, USA, and received his MBA from the Harvard Business School in 2003.
He is passionate about reforming the healthcare system in India, and providing consumers with a high quality, high service and ethical option for all their health care needs.
Chief, Medical Operations
As Chief of Medical Operations at Healthspring, Capt. Kushilab Bose is directly responsible for delivering quality care across the many Healthspring centres. He also provides strategic direction to the patient-centric approach at Healthspring.
Capt. Bose leads from the front, with over twenty years of operational experience with Indian Navy, where he rendered seven years of his sea service on board all classes of warships. He was also in charge of training of paramedics for Indian Navy as Principal of Paramedic Training College and a member of the implementation team for enterprise level naval health information system across naval hospitals.
He has gained considerable and invaluable experience and expertise in medical operations and planning, from his time as Joint Director of Medical Services at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi.
Tushar Toprani has joined us as Head, Finance in February 2014. Tushar is a senior accounting and financial management executive with over 20 years of experience with both start-up ventures and MNC’s.
His previous organization was Quintiles Transnational Corporation, wherein he headed the finance organization for their Indian Operation and spent almost 14 years. He has also worked within Pharma, Finance and manufacturing sectors. Tushar has been exposed in detail to governance requirements of global corporations, including membership of several statutory boards.
He has demonstrated ability to streamline business operations that drive growth and increase efficiency and profits. He possesses strong qualifications in developing and implementing financial controls and processes in addition to productivity improvements and change management. Tushar is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has relocated from Ahmedabad.
Head, Strategic Initiatives
Most recently, Vikram spent 5 years with the private equity investment team at IDFC Alternatives in Mumbai, where he had the opportunity to work with some of India’s leading infrastructure companies across the healthcare, power, transport and education sectors.
Vikram left IDFC in January 2014 to join Healthspring. Earlier, Vikram spent 2+ years as an investment professional with Clarity Partners, a Los Angeles-based private equity fund focused on the telecom and media sectors.
Vikram started his career as an analyst with Lehman Brothers’ telecom and media investment banking team in New York. Vikram holds a BA in Economics from Wesleyan University (class of 2003) and an MBA from INSEAD (class of 2008).
Director, Retail Business
Ram has led a number of services business from start to stability and high growth. Most recent has been Times of India Group’s foray in to education and corporate training business where he led the new business initiatives, corporate solutions and product incubation across industry verticals.
Ram has to his credit a pioneering blended learning platform aimed at improving workplace productivity for financial services organizations branded as Economic Times FinPro, which he ideated and developed at Times Group. Earlier he played a key role in setting up skills education joint venture between Manipal Group and City & Guilds. In his earlier capacity as an entrepreneur Ram had set-up a captive BPO unit running credit cards process for Deutsche Bank.
Ram is a leadership professional with intense experience of Building High Performance Teams, Managing Large Business Units, Marketing, Branding & Aligning a services organization around customer outcomes. His interests lie in disruptive marketing strategies and people development.
Ram is responsible for the overall Retail Business Unit at Healthspring including Marketing, Sales, Service Delivery & Customer Life Cycle Management.
Ram was awarded University Gold Medal during his MBA in International Business from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi.
Director, Corporate Business
Soumya has worked with large global as well as start-up ventures- Leading sales, cross functional teams, business development, client operations and relationship management.
He started his career and spent over 5 years with Citibank in consumer lending and branch banking businesses, before moving to Genpact in client operations and corporate staff roles. He has been part of the founding management team at Fullerton Securities-a greenfield financial transaction & advisory venture.
Soumya also led biz dev for a start-up higher education JV of an Indian media house, signing up a set of preeminent corporate partnerships and driving enrolments for the launch programs.
At Healthspring, Soumya is building out a comprehensive Pan-India corporate care program, partnering with existing and new marquee clients. Soumya holds a B.E from NIT- Surathkal and is an MBA from IIM Lucknow.
Head, New Geographies
With Bachelors in Mathematics from Ferguson College Pune and a Masters Degree in International Business, Moin Kazi has successfully handled significant roles with fortune 500 companies. He brings with him a vast global experience and a solid track record of achieving sustainable and consistent growth.
Prior to his association with Healthspring, Moin was the CEO of Amelio Medicorp, Mumbai with core competency in occupational health and wellness. He was the Director –Global Strategic Initiatives with the US Based BPO firm – Sutherland Global Services and successfully handled process excellence and global expansion in Asia, Middle East, Europe, North America & Caribbean and Latin America. Moin excels in building high-growth strategies, process improvement and solution development.
Head, Customer Experience
Lynette Thomas has over 30 years of work experience. Her career began with FMCG at Lakme Ltd that forayed into Franchisee salons and led the Fashion business in India. She then moved to Lakme Lever during the Hindustan Lever Ltd. joint venture formation, where her key role was setting up retail outlets, training and managing the consumer in-store experience.
Lynette later moved to telecom and joined Airtel, followed by Reliance Communication to initiate a unique women oriented Sales channel. It was founded to create Brand Ambassadors promoting cellular usage. This comprised of women in a work from home model, its primary purpose being to educate, elevate and empower women.
In her most recent role in Logistics with PN Writer, Lynette headed Service Delivery for India and Middle East for their Relocation group business. Her assignment entailed Customer Care, Quality and Project management focussing on Standardisation of Operating processes and Service Excellence. Her strength lies in understanding the needs of her clients and offering Customer Centric solutions.
